David Beckett
David Beckett joined the firm in 2010 as a partner. He has extensive experience in the field of labor and employment law, representing employees and labor unions in complex labor matters.
With a proven record for successful negotiation and a knack for resolving intricate labor and employment disputes, Mr. Beckett is a seasoned litigator admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York in both State and Federal Courts. During his career, Mr. Beckett has prevailed in jury trials involving employment discrimination and contract claims, and successfully litigated violations of overtime provisions under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Mr. Beckett ‘s experience at the bargaining table is equally impressive. A veteran negotiator, he has represented unions in collective bargaining, interest arbitrations and unfair labor practice cases. Well versed in representing union interests, he has appeared before the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission, the Civil Service Commission, and the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, among others relevant bodies.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Beckett was employed by the State of New Jersey, Office of the Governor. In this capacity, he counseled the Governor on labor issues and was vested with negotiating and enforcing labor agreements between the State and the State’s 60,000+ public employees. During his tenure, he developed and implemented reforms to advance cooperative labor relations. One of his many achievements was establishing a mediation program aimed at reducing delays in disciplinary terminations of relevant law enforcement officers and fire fighters.
Mr. Beckett is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and was awarded his Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles. Upon graduation, he began his career as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Alan B. Handler, a Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court. Mr. Beckett’s scholarly background has included teaching courses at the Union Leadership Academy at Rutgers University, where he focused seminars and training sessions on labor and employment issues faced by labor unions.
